Sky Manor Airport (N40)

Pittstown, New Jersey

For most of two decades, Kent Linn has worked very hard to make Sky Manor airport a grass-roots airport with a 'Country Club' atmosphere. Neat and clean, N40 boasts a paved runway of over 2439x50 feet which is well-lighted for night operations. There is a PAPI system to assist with approaches.

There is a restaurant on-field, which serves up inexpensive and tasty meals, and is best known for its Sunday brunch and Friday dinner buffets.

Both 100LL and 80-octane Avgas is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week, at some of the best prices in the region. There is ample parking for transient aircraft on both hard-surface ramp and grass areas. Major repairs can be attended to by Kress Aviation, and Sterling Wings Aviation and Pilot shop offers pilot supplies, training, and aircraft rentals.

N40 is home to some fascinating aircraft, including ultralight 'trikes', Aeronca, Stearman, Ercoupe, Hyperbipe, Comanche, Bonanza, and Partenavia, to name just a few. Many locals come to enjoy the restaurant, the collection of interesting birds in the aviary, and watch the flight operations.

During calm evening hours, Sky Manor is the operational base for a number of hot-air balloons, which brighten up the sky around the area on most days. On many summer and fall evenings, these, in combination with vintage and antique aircraft, fill the skies with excitement until the sun sinks over the western hills.

Chapter 643's Young Eagles activities usually depart from Sky Manor.

First-time visiting pilots are often distracted by the high-tension wires which underlie the approach to runway 25; though they can seem intimidating, they are well below the glide-slope marked by the PAPI, and are marked with orange balls.

Of more significance is the proximity of neighboring Alexandria field's traffic pattern. Be careful not to wander into N85's airspace during approaches and departures, and be vigilant for aircraft approaching N85 on the '45' when Alexandria is using runway 26. When entering on the '45' for runway 7 at Sky Manor, be aware of departing traffic from Alexandria's runway 8! Departing north from Alexandria, you can easily find yourself in conflict with traffic from Alexandria's pattern.

Between Alexandria and Sky Manor, and Vansant Airport across the river, this can be some very busy airspace on a sunny weekend afternoon! Know where you are, keep your eyes open, communicate, and be considerate of other aircraft.
